Overview
The Tsunami Monument stands on Male's east coast in memory of the 82 Maldivians lost in the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The striking steel sculpture takes the form of a great wave and star, surrounded by plaques bearing victims' names. At sunset, the monument glows gold against the Indian Ocean — a quietly powerful experience. Free admission. On the east coast promenade.
