Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

Chinatown, Vancouver

Overview

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden opened in April 1986, built by 52 craftsmen sent from Suzhou, China, working alongside Canadian counterparts to faithfully recreate a Ming Dynasty private scholar's garden — the first full-scale classical Chinese garden built outside Asia. Vancouver's winter climate closely resembles Suzhou's, allowing many authentic plant varieties to be used, and the garden was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2016. It is located at 578 Carrall Street in Vancouver's Chinatown, with adult admission of approximately CA$16.80. Free guided tours run roughly hourly in summer and a few times daily off-season, and tea ceremony experiences are also popular.
