Overview
VanDusen Botanical Garden was built on the former Shaughnessy Golf Course and opened in August 1975, named after lumber businessman and philanthropist Whitford Julian VanDusen. The 22-hectare garden hosts over 7,500 plant species and varieties from around the world, with an Elizabethan boxwood hedge maze among its most popular features. The Visitor Centre, opened in 2011, is a LEED Platinum-certified building shaped like an orchid when viewed from above. Adult admission is approximately CA$13.85 online or CA$14.85 at the gate, and the garden is located at 5251 Oak Street at West 37th Avenue.
