Overview
Opened in 1952, Museum Rietberg holds about 23,000 works of Asian, African, American, and Oceanic art, making it Switzerland's largest museum of non-European art. Its main building, Villa Wesendonck, is where Richard Wagner lived from 1849-58 while composing 'Tristan und Isolde.' An underground glass pavilion called 'Smaragd,' added in 2007, doubled the exhibition space. Permanent collection admission is about CHF 14 (special exhibitions cost more; free for ages 16 and under). Take tram 7 to the Museum Rietberg stop.
