Overview
Construction of San Pedro Claver Church began in 1603 by the Jesuits, honoring Father Pedro Claver (1580-1654), who dedicated his life to baptizing and caring for enslaved Africans brought to Cartagena. The saint's remains are preserved in a glass case inside the church. The attached museum displays colonial religious art and African artifacts, the inner courtyard features a lovely tropical garden, and the rooftop offers views over the Walled City's rooftops. A key site for understanding Cartagena's slave-trade history.
Opening Hours
Monday-Friday 08:00-17:30, Saturday-Sunday 08:00-16:00.
Travel Tips
Head to the rooftop for views over the Walled City. Allow about 1 hour for both the museum and church.
