Overview
Completed in 1791, Berlin's signature landmark is a neoclassical gate modeled on the Propylaea of the Athenian Acropolis. During the Cold War it stood right beside the wall dividing East and West Berlin, making it a symbol of division; after the wall fell in 1989, it became an emblem of German reunification. The Quadriga - a four-horse chariot atop the gate - is its most striking feature, especially when lit up at night. Free to visit. 1-minute walk from S-Bahn/U-Bahn Brandenburger Tor station.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (exterior viewing).
Travel Tips
The best photo angle is straight on from Pariser Platz. The gate is especially impressive when illuminated at night.
