Overview
Once a desolate no-man's-land split by the Wall during the Cold War, Potsdamer Platz was transformed after 1990 through a massive redevelopment involving world-renowned architects, becoming one of Berlin's defining modern skylines. The glass-roofed Sony Center houses cinemas, restaurants, and an IMAX, and hosts the red carpet for the Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) every February. A preserved section of the original Wall and an old checkpoint sign remain nearby, offering a striking contrast between past and present.
