Overview
Built in 1894, the Reichstag served the German Empire and Weimar Republic, was gutted by fire in 1933, and was restored as the home of the Bundestag in 1999. British architect Norman Foster's glass dome symbolizes parliamentary transparency, and a spiral ramp leads to a 360-degree panorama over Berlin. The parliamentary chamber sits directly beneath the dome, expressing the democratic ideal that citizens 'look down on' their representatives. Free entry (online booking and photo ID required). 5-minute walk from S/U-Bahn Brandenburger Tor station.
