Overview
A vast 210-hectare central park comparable to New York's Central Park. Originally the Prussian royal hunting grounds in the 17th century, it opened to the public in the 18th. At its heart stands the 67-meter Victory Column (Siegessäule), built in 1864 to commemorate the Franco-Prussian War — climb 285 steps to its viewing platform for a Berlin panorama. Lakes, gardens, and trails make it perfect for jogging, cycling, and picnics, while the adjacent Berlin Zoo houses around 20,000 animals, making it one of Europe's largest. Free entry (Victory Column about EUR 4). S-Bahn Tiergarten or U-Bahn Hansaplatz.
Opening Hours
Park 24 hours; Victory Column 09:30-18:30 (shorter hours by season)
