Overview
Designed by architect Aníbal González for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, this semicircular square spans 200m across. Blending Renaissance Revival and Mudéjar styles, it is ringed by tiled alcoves representing Spain's 48 provinces, each depicting a historical event in vivid azulejo tiles. Visitors can row boats along the canal, and the four bridges symbolise Spain's four ancient kingdoms. It is also a famous filming location for 'Star Wars: Episode II' and 'Lawrence of Arabia'. Free entry (boats about EUR 6). 5-minute walk from Metro L1 Prado de San Sebastián station.
