Overview
Located north of Seville's old town near the Macarena district, the Alameda de Hércules was created in the 16th century by draining a marshy former branch of the Guadalquivir River and planting rows of poplar trees. At its southern end stand columns taken from an ancient Roman temple, topped with statues of Hercules and Julius Caesar, giving the square its name. After urban renewal in the 2000s, it has become a gathering spot for Seville's younger crowd, lined with trendy bars, cafes, and galleries. By day it offers a relaxed stroll and benches to rest on, while at night it comes alive with a buzzing bar scene, offering a different charm from the traditional tourist sites.
