Overview
Located on the Île de la Cité, the Conciergerie was built as a royal palace for the Capetian kings from the 10th to 14th centuries before being converted into a prison. During the French Revolution, around 2,700 prisoners passed through here on their way to the guillotine. The cell where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution has been recreated, and the Hall of the Men-at-Arms is one of the largest surviving medieval halls in Europe. It's an easy walk to combine with Sainte-Chapelle next door. Admission is about EUR 13. A 3-minute walk from Metro Cité (Line 4).
