Overview
Opened in 1793, the Louvre is the world's largest art museum, with roughly 380,000 works in its collection. Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace are among the masterpieces that fill its halls. Originally a 12th-century fortress before becoming the French royal palace, it now welcomes visitors through I.M. Pei's glass pyramid, added in 1989. The collection is so vast that seeing everything would take at least three days. Admission EUR 22 (online booking recommended; free for under 18). Directly connected to Metro Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre (Line 1).
