Overview
Originally commissioned in 1758 as a church dedicated to Saint Genevieve, the Pantheon was converted after the French Revolution into a mausoleum honoring the nation's great figures. Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Jean-Jaques Rousseau, and Alexandre Dumas rest in its crypt, and Foucault's pendulum still swings beneath the dome to demonstrate the Earth's rotation. The dome's viewing gallery (seasonal) offers sweeping views over the Left Bank. Admission is about EUR 13. A 5-minute walk from RER B Luxembourg station.
