Overview
Designed in 1918 by French architect Ernest Hébrard as the centerpiece of his post-fire master plan, Aristotelous Square is Thessaloniki's main square, with one side opening onto the Thermaic Gulf for stunning sea views. Elegant Neo-Byzantine buildings line both sides, including historic landmarks like Hotel Electra Palace. Locals while away hours in the cafe terraces over Greek coffee (ellinikos) or frappe, and a statue of Aristotle at the square's edge is a popular photo stop. Concerts and events fill the calendar year-round, and the December Christmas market is a highlight. Free entry. Right in the city center.
