Overview
Built in 1444 on the order of Ottoman Sultan Murad II, this grand public bathhouse (hammam) is considered the first and largest Ottoman bath complex built in the Balkans. Once nicknamed 'Paradise' for its lavish decor, it features a distinctive dual layout with separate sections for men and women. It functioned as a working bathhouse until 1968, after which it was restored as a protected monument and now serves as an exhibition space offering a window into Ottoman bathing culture. Star-shaped skylights piercing the domed ceiling cast striking light through the interior. Free or minimal admission. 5-minute walk from Aristotelous Square.
