Overview
Monas, the National Monument, is a 132 m obelisk symbolizing Indonesia's independence, topped with a flame sculpture sheathed in 35 kg of pure gold. Started in 1961 under President Sukarno and completed in 1975, its basement houses a diorama museum chronicling the independence struggle. The observation deck offers a 360-degree view of Jakarta. Observation deck admission IDR 20,000. Directly at MRT Monas Station.

Travel Tips
The elevator to the observation deck can have long lines, so go early. Surrounding Merdeka Square fills with locals exercising on Sunday mornings.
