Overview
Pasar Baru ('New Market' in Indonesian, ironically one of Jakarta's oldest) has operated since around 1820 as a shopping street selling textiles, batik, tailoring services, and jewelry. Once a favorite among Dutch colonial-era residents, it retains an old-town charm with colonial-style shopfronts alongside modern stalls. It sits along the Ciliwung River within walking distance of Jakarta Cathedral and Istiqlal Mosque.
