Overview
Sunda Kelapa is the old harbour from which Jakarta originated, used as a trading port of the Sunda Kingdom from the 12th century before becoming a Dutch East India Company stronghold. Today it remains a living piece of history, where traditional wooden pinisi schooners built by the Bugis people of Sulawesi still load and unload cargo. A maritime museum and lighthouse nearby make it worth a combined visit.
