Overview
Buland Darwaza ("Lofty Gate") was built by Emperor Akbar in 1601 to commemorate his conquest of Gujarat, standing about 54m tall — one of the highest gateways in the world. It forms the southern entrance to Fatehpur Sikri's Jama Masjid, its red sandstone facade inlaid with white marble. An Arabic inscription mentioning Jesus is carved on the gate, making it a symbol of religious coexistence. Included in the Fatehpur Sikri entry fee.
