Overview
Built between 1632 and 1653 by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum crafted by 20,000 artisans. It is renowned for its perfect symmetry and intricate pietra dura gemstone inlay. The marble's shifting colors at sunrise, sunset and under a full moon have earned it acclaim as one of the most beautiful buildings ever made. Admission INR 1,100 for foreigners (INR 50 discount with card payment). About 20 minutes by auto-rickshaw from Agra Cantt Station.
