Overview
Franziskanerkirche (the Franciscan Church) is one of Salzburg's oldest churches, blending a Romanesque nave with a later Gothic hall-choir. Its high altar, centered on the 'Pacher-Madonna' carved by Michael Pacher and set within a Baroque frame designed by Johann Fischer von Erlach, is a particular highlight. Standing right next to Salzburg Cathedral, it's an easy add-on to a cathedral visit, and is open to tourists outside Mass times. Free admission. 2-3 minute walk from Residenzplatz, within the walkable Old Town.
