Overview
The Salzburg Marionette Theatre, founded in 1913 by Anton Aicher, is one of the world's oldest continuously operating marionette theaters, with hand-carved puppets performing opera and ballet through intricate movements. This marionette tradition was inscribed on Austria's UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016, and 'The Sound of Music' and 'The Magic Flute' are among its signature shows. Located on the right bank of the Salzach near Mirabell Gardens, it has staged performances in its current building since 1971.
