Overview
Laid out in 1606, this Baroque palace and garden became world-famous as the location where Maria and the children sang 'Do-Re-Mi' in The Sound of Music. Geometrically arranged flower beds, fountains, Greek mythological statues, and a rose garden frame Hohensalzburg Fortress in the background — Salzburg's most photogenic spot. The palace's Marble Hall hosts regular classical concerts. Gardens free, open year-round. About 10 minutes on foot from Salzburg main station.

As of 2026, both the gardens and the palace interiors (Marble Hall, Angel Staircase) are FREE. The Marble Hall may be closed to visitors during weddings and events.

Gardens open daily from about 06:00 until dusk (around 21:00 in summer). Palace interior Mon-Sat approx. 08:00-18:00; Marble Hall Mon/Wed/Thu 08:00-16:00, Tue/Fri 13:00-16:00.
🚇 Getting there
From Salzburg Hauptbahnhof take trolleybus (Obus) 1, 2, 3, 5 or 6 to the Mirabellplatz stop (about 5 minutes), right in front of the palace. It is also a 15-minute walk down Rainerstrasse.
