Overview
Schloss Leopoldskron is a 1736 Rococo palace built by Archbishop Leopold Anton von Firmian, famous as the filming location for the Von Trapp family mansion's exterior and lake scenes in The Sound of Music. It now operates as a hotel and the Salzburg Global Seminar center. The interior is open only to hotel guests, but the Leopoldskron lakeside path offers free views of the palace reflected in the lake with Untersberg mountain behind — a picture-perfect scene. Lake walk free. About 25 minutes on foot from the city center or by bus.
Opening Hours
Lake path: open 24 hours (palace interior: hotel guests only).
Travel Tips
The southern lakeside path offers the best photo spot capturing the palace with Untersberg behind. Morning visits offer the stillest water for perfect reflections.
