Overview
Construction began in 1077, making Hohensalzburg one of Europe's largest fully preserved medieval fortresses, perched atop Mönchsberg hill above the Old Town. A funicular carries visitors to the top, where the panoramic views of the Alps and the Baroque Old Town are breathtaking. Inside, explore the medieval armory, the Archbishop's ornate staterooms, and the Marionette Museum. Admission (including funicular) about EUR 13. 15-minute walk from Getreidegasse or take the funicular.
Opening Hours
