Overview
Tiergarten Schönbrunn was founded in 1752 by Emperor Franz I Stephan as an imperial menagerie, making it the world's oldest continuously operating zoo. Spanning 17 hectares within the Schönbrunn Palace grounds, it's home to more than 700 species including giant pandas, elephants, and polar bears, and has repeatedly been ranked Europe's best zoo. Baroque-era imperial pavilions still stand throughout, blending history with wildlife encounters. Tickets must be purchased separately from the palace ticket. Admission adults EUR 29, seniors/disabled/children EUR 18, free under 6. Take U4 to Hietzing (not the 'Schönbrunn' stop) or tram 10/58/60.
