Overview
Vienna's symbolic cathedral was begun in the 12th century in Romanesque style and completed in Gothic form. Climbing the 343 steps to the top of the 137m south tower (the 'Steffl') rewards you with a 360-degree panorama of the old town. The roof is covered with 250,000 colored tiles depicting the Habsburg coat of arms, and the catacombs below hold the internal organs of Habsburg emperors.
Opening Hours
06:00-22:00 (tourist visiting hours 09:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:30; Sundays 13:00-16:30).
Travel Tips
Choose between the south tower (343 stairs) and the north tower (elevator) viewpoints. The underground catacomb tour is also fascinating.
