Overview
Founded in 1572, the Spanish Riding School is the world's oldest riding academy still in operation, staging classical dressage (Haute École) performances by white Lipizzaner horses in the Baroque Winter Riding School, completed in 1735, inside the Hofburg complex. The horses' elegant movements beneath crystal chandeliers are inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
