Hundertwasserhaus

Landstraße, Vienna

Overview

Hundertwasserhaus is a municipal apartment building designed 1983-1985 by painter-architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser with architects Krawina and Pelikan. It rejects straight lines in favor of undulating floors, a rainbow-colored facade, uniquely designed windows, and trees and grass on the rooftop expressing harmony with nature. Since 52 households actually live here, the interior is closed to visitors. Across the street, Hundertwasser Village offers shops and cafes, and the Kunst Haus Wien museum 10 minutes away delves deeper into his artistic world. Free to view from outside. About 8 minutes on foot from Hetzgasse tram stop (line 1) or Rochusgasse station (U3).
