Overview

Barra da Tijuca Beach, roughly 18km long, is Rio's longest beach, stretching from Morro do Joá to Recreio dos Bandeirantes. It attracts more locals than tourists compared to Copacabana or Ipanema, with strong waves and clear water making it popular for surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and bodyboarding. A bike path runs the length of the beach, and the Pepê Beach section is lined with surf schools and seafood kiosks. Several 2016 Rio Olympics venues were built in this area. Admission is free.
