Rio de Janeiro

Southeast Region

Rio de Janeiro

리우데자네이루

The city of Carnival and samba, defined by the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado and Copacabana Beach. Ipanema and Leblon are the heart of chic beach culture, while Santa Teresa's bohemian galleries and cafes add charm. Even outside Carnival, samba clubs and bossa nova bars keep Brazilian music alive, and sunset from Sugarloaf Mountain is an unforgettable experience.

Best Season

The May-September dry season is the best time to visit. The February-March Carnival season is festive but prices climb sharply.

Budget

Daily budget around KRW 100,000-200,000 (accommodation 50,000-120,000; food 30,000-50,000; transport and admissions 20,000-30,000).

Transport

About 40 minutes to 1 hour from Galeão International Airport to the city by BRT or taxi. The metro and buses are the main forms of transport, and Uber is also convenient. Prepaid SIMs (Claro, TIM) available at the airport (R$30-80). Cards accepted at tourist venues, but cash (reais) needed at stalls and on the beach. Restaurants include a 10% service charge automatically; additional tipping is optional.

Visa

Korean passport holders can stay visa-free for up to 90 days (no e-Visa required).

Safety

Stick to tourist areas and avoid flashing expensive jewelry or cameras. Visit favelas only on a guided tour.
