Quinta da Boa Vista
Park

Quinta da Boa Vista

São Cristóvão, Rio de Janeiro

Overview

Quinta da Boa Vista is a park built on the grounds of the former royal palace where the Portuguese-Brazilian royal family lived from 1808 to 1889, retaining gardens designed by French landscaper Auguste Glaziou, along with grottoes, lakes, and a Temple of Apollo folly. The former palace building, once home to the National Museum, was severely damaged in a 2018 fire and remains under restoration, so interior visits are currently not possible. Even so, the wide lawns, lakes, walking paths, and paddle-boat rentals remain a favorite retreat for locals. Admission is free, and it's close to the São Cristóvão metro and train stations.

💰 Tickets

Free park admission. The National Museum remains closed for restoration following the 2018 fire.
