Overview
Christ the Redeemer is a 30m-tall statue of Jesus standing atop Rio de Janeiro's Corcovado Mountain (710m), and was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. Completed in 1931, the statue looks down over Rio with outstretched arms and is Brazil's most iconic landmark. From the summit you'll get a 360-degree panorama of Sugarloaf, Copacabana Beach, and Guanabara Bay. Riding the cog train up through the rainforest is a delight in itself.

The monument is open daily roughly 8:00-19:00; trains typically depart every 20-30 minutes from about 8:00, with the last ascent around 17:00-18:00. Official vans from Copacabana and Largo do Machado run about 8:00-16:00 and from Paineiras until about 17:00, with extended hours possible in high season.
🚇 Getting there
Take the metro to Largo do Machado station, then a bus (e.g. 422 or 583) or the metro surface shuttle to the Cosme Velho train station (Rua Cosme Velho 513). Alternatively, board an official Paineiras van from Copacabana (Praca do Lido) or Largo do Machado - round-trip transport and entry are included in the ticket; private cars cannot drive to the summit.

Plan about 2-3 hours round trip including the train or van ride and time at the viewing platform. In high season, queues can push the visit past 3 hours, so allow extra time.
