Overview

Flamengo Park (Aterro do Flamengo), designed by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx in 1965, is the world's largest urban seaside park, built on land reclaimed using soil from demolished downtown hills. Stretching from Santos Dumont Airport to Botafogo, the park is home to the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), a WWII memorial, and the Marina da Glória, and is always busy with locals jogging, cycling, and playing football. On the first Sunday of each month, a tri-service honor guard changing ceremony takes place. Admission is free, and it also offers great views of Sugarloaf and Corcovado.
