Overview
Tijuca National Park is the world's largest urban tropical rainforest, covering about 32km² right inside Rio de Janeiro. Originally destroyed by coffee plantations in the 19th century, it was reforested and is now a globally celebrated reforestation success story. The park has over 30 waterfalls and numerous hiking trails, and the summit of Pico da Tijuca (1,022m) offers 360-degree views of Rio. Wildlife sightings include monkeys and toucans.
