Overview

Japan House São Paulo is one of three Japanese cultural centers established worldwide by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (alongside Los Angeles and London), designed by architect Kengo Kuma. Its façade of 70-year-old hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood and handmade washi paper stands out on Paulista Avenue. Inside are exhibition spaces, a library, a Japanese restaurant and café, and a gift shop, with exhibits ranging from traditional crafts to contemporary design and anime. Admission is free.
