Overview
São Paulo Zoo, opened in 1958, spans 47 hectares and is home to over 230 native and exotic species, including lions, maned wolves, golden lion tamarins, spectacled bears, chimpanzees, elephants, rhinos, and hippos. Built into the original Atlantic Forest terrain, the zoo itself feels like walking through dense woodland. The adjacent Zoo Safari lets visitors drive through and observe animals up close. The grounds are large — plan for around 4 hours on foot — so wear comfortable shoes and bring snacks.
