Museu do Ipiranga (Museu Paulista) is a palace-style building on the banks of the Ipiranga stream, where Pedro I declared Brazil's independence in 1822, and houses the country's most famous painting, 'Independence or Death.' After nine years of major restoration, it reopened in 2022 with exhibition space expanded from 12 to 49 rooms and greatly improved accessibility, including elevators, ramps, and tactile flooring. The French-style gardens surrounding the building are also beautiful for a stroll. Free admission every Wednesday and on the first Sunday of each month.
