Overview
Surprise Corner earned its name from the sudden dramatic view that appears around a bend on Tunnel Mountain Road, a scene famous on postcards since the late 1800s. A 4.6km trail follows the Bow River from here to the Hoodoos, needle-like rock spires left behind as softer sediment eroded away. Both sites are free natural viewpoints, though the park entry fee applies separately. They're about 15-20 minutes from downtown Banff by car or on foot.
