Overview
During an 1882 Canadian Pacific Railway survey, a tunnel through this mountain was proposed but never built — the plan gave the mountain its name. The Stoney Nakoda people have long called it by a name meaning 'Sleeping Buffalo.' The trail climbs a gentle 2.4km with 260m of elevation gain, taking most hikers just 1-2 hours round trip. The trail itself is free, with only the park entry fee applying, and it's reachable on foot right from the Banff townsite.
