Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake, Banff National Park

Overview

Moraine Lake sits in the Valley of the Ten Peaks within Banff National Park, famous for the brilliant turquoise water created by glacial rock flour. Once featured on the Canadian 20-dollar bill, the lake is a highlight of any Rockies trip. Climbing the Rockpile Trail for a higher viewpoint reveals the ten peaks lined up like a folding screen behind the lake. Paddling a canoe across the water is just as memorable.

Opening Hours

Open 24 hours when the road is open (June-October).

Travel Tips

The road is only open from June to October, and with limited parking the Parks Canada shuttle bus must be reserved. Visit early in the morning to see the peaks mirrored on the still water.
