Habitat 67

Cité-du-Havre, Montreal

Overview

Habitat 67 is located at 2600 Pierre-Dupuy Avenue on the Cité-du-Havre peninsula along the St. Lawrence River, an experimental modular housing complex designed by architect Moshe Safdie as a pavilion for the 1967 Montreal World's Fair (Expo 67). Its distinctive form, stacked from 148 prefabricated concrete boxes, is celebrated as an icon of 20th-century modern architecture and remains a privately owned building where residents actually live today. The interior isn't open for casual visits, but from April through November an official 90-minute guided tour lets visitors walk the pedestrian bridges, rooftop terraces, and part of a real living unit; the tour costs CA$58 for adults and must be booked online in advance. The entrance near the Concorde Bridge is reachable via STM bus route 777 from Bonaventure or Jean-Drapeau métro stations.
