Overview
Parc La Fontaine is a 34-hectare urban park in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, originally a British military training ground that became a public park in 1874 and was renamed in 1901 after Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine, Canada's first French-Canadian prime minister. It features two ponds linked by a waterfall, the open-air Théâtre de Verdure, the Calixa-Lavallée cultural centre, and tennis courts, with admission always free. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight; in summer, pedal boats can be rented on the ponds, and in winter the ponds turn into an outdoor skating rink with skate rentals available at the on-site chalet. It's a short walk from Sherbrooke or Mont-Royal métro stations and pairs well with a stroll through the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood.
