Overview
Opened in 1931, Montreal Botanical Garden spans 75 hectares with 10 greenhouses and 30 thematic gardens - one of the largest in the world. The Japanese, Chinese, and First Nations gardens are especially renowned, and each September-October the 'Gardens of Light' festival illuminates the Chinese and Japanese gardens with thousands of lanterns for a magical evening. The Insectarium next door houses 2,200 insect species, and the Biodôme (ecosystem museum) is also nearby. Admission CA$25. 10-minute walk from Pie-IX metro station.
Opening Hours
Daily 09:00-18:00 (varies by season; until 22:00 during Gardens of Light)
Travel Tips
Don't miss the Gardens of Light evening entry (after 18:00) in September-October. Combination tickets for the garden, Biodôme, and Insectarium save money.
