Overview
The Church of St. Leodegar traces its origins to a monastery founded around 735, with the current building erected 1633-1639 on the site of an earlier basilica destroyed by fire. Remarkably completed during the Thirty Years' War, it stands as one of the finest examples of late Renaissance church architecture north of the Alps, its twin spires visible from across the city and lake. Inside, a wooden pulpit from 1637 and a grand organ with over 5,000 pipes make it a popular concert venue. Admission is free, with donations welcomed. It's about a 5-minute walk from Lucerne's train station, easily reached along the lakeside promenade.
Opening Hours
Open roughly 7:00 AM-7:00 PM, varying by day (schedule may vary, check before visiting).
