Overview
Lucerne's Old Town stretches along both sides of the Reuss River, distinguished by lavish frescoes painted directly on building facades. Historic squares like Weinmarkt, Kornmarkt, and Hirschenplatz preserve the traces of centuries-old market culture. The 870m Musegg Wall, built in the 14th century, has nine towers — four open to visitors for views of the city and lake. The Zytturm clock tower holds Lucerne's oldest timepiece, which enjoys the privilege of chiming one minute ahead of the city's official clock. Free to visit. 5-minute walk from Lucerne station.
Opening Hours
Open 24 hours (Musegg Wall: April-November 08:00-19:00).
Travel Tips
Musegg Wall towers are open April-November only. The best-preserved frescoes are around Hirschenplatz and Weinmarkt.
