Overview
The Stanserhorn, at 1,898m near the village of Stans, is renowned for the CabriO, the world's first open-top double-decker cable car, launched in 2012. Riders first take the historic funicular (running since 1893) about 10 minutes up to the Kälti midway station, then transfer to the CabriO for another 10-minute ride to the summit, feeling the open air on the roofless upper deck. A revolving restaurant at the top offers 360-degree Alpine and Lake Lucerne views while dining. A round trip costs about CHF 80; holders of the Swiss Half Fare Card get 50% off, and Swiss Travel Pass holders ride free. It operates from mid-April to late November, closing for winter.
