Overview
At 1,797m, Mount Rigi is the 'Queen of the Mountains,' famed for Europe's first mountain railway (opened 1871). Surrounded by Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug, and Lake Lauerz, the summit panorama is extraordinary. On clear days, views extend to Germany's Black Forest, and sunrise from Rigi Kulm is counted among Europe's most beautiful. An overnight at the summit hotel followed by a dawn viewing is a classic Swiss itinerary. Train return about CHF 72 (free with Swiss Travel Pass). About 1 hour by boat from Lucerne to Vitznau, then 30 minutes by train.
Opening Hours
