Overview
Opened in 1889, Korkeasaari is one of the world's oldest zoos, occupying an entire island in Helsinki's harbor. Around 150 species live here, including snow leopards and Amur tigers involved in endangered species conservation programs, with a particular focus on rare Siberian and Far Eastern wildlife. The island's natural scenery adds Baltic views to the visit, and a summer ferry from Market Square makes it a popular urban nature escape.
Travel Tips
Take the summer ferry from Market Square to combine the zoo visit with a boat ride. In winter, access is by bridge only.
